What belongs in a brand guideline (and what doesn't)

Start with the decisions, not the decoration

The short version: teams do not fail here because they lack effort. They fail because nobody wrote down which decision belongs to whom.

  • Name every colour by role, not by hex, so nobody has to guess which blue is the button.
  • Show the logo at its smallest allowed size first. That is where identities break.
  • Write the tone of voice as three do/do-not pairs, not three paragraphs.

If you want a second opinion on where yours sits, we run a short audit and send back a one-page summary with the three changes worth making first.
